COVER ART FOR BOOKS.
The easiest way to explain what I do when I create Cover Art is to show you. I work only to the vaguest of briefs and resist full direction - if you want a jobbing artist, go elsewhere! What I create for my friends instead of something churned out by a sausage factory is something unique that is appropriate to and complements their own creation. Oh, and something with intrinsic "kerb appeal" to make the customer pick up their book, rather than the one next to it.

This novel has now been translated and published in Traditional Chinese and I think the chinese cover looks particularly good in its Hanzi writing.

I'm delighted with it - as are all of the various authors involved with the project.
Volumes 2 & 3 are now in the pipeline and I have been asked to create and prepare the artwork for those and subequent releases in the series.
As you can see this book cover has immense Kerb Appeal. My aim with my art is always to give the author the winning edge with the browsing customer and this cover pretty much sums up 'what I do' in a nutshell.
The Perseus imagery is being developed into a Brand and it is hoped that merchandise bearing the art work will soon be available.

This is a story of "timey-wimey stuff" where a woman goes back in time to early 19th Century Tennessee for 'purely personal reasons'. But of course, when you go back in time for purely personal reasons, things are bound to go wrong, right?
I tried to express that dissonance and transition from one thing to another in the way the picture passes through the spine and turns, literally, inside out.This is a world gone inexplicably wrong.

This is the sequel to 'Deadly Jewel'.
Sam knows I like the vaguest of briefs so when he said, 'I want you to use this illustration from NASA as the base image' he hid for a week, knowing I hate being given artistic direction like God hates sin.
Purely because he is 'Pinkie' to my 'Brain' I gave Sam this one, took the image, played with it a bit, merged it with the themes, tones &images of the first cover and progressed them into a world literally blown apart. As the central characters are now living in a changed galaxy, that seemed apropos.
